Facsimile of Codex Alexandrinus Now Online

21 Mar 2006   posted by: Chris Weimer   tags: manuscripts

Finally, a facsimile of Codex A is finally online, thanks to The Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts. Ivan Y. Young, an assistant to the executive director of the center said this on the textualcriticism list on Yahoo!:

The images of Codex Alexandrinus were made from the fourth volume (NT and Clementine epistles) of the full-sized facsimile of the manuscript, produced from 1879-83 by the British Library. Since the original facsimile is about 125 years old, copyright restrictions no longer apply. On the other hand, since the images are of an old black and white facsimile, the quality of the images of the manuscript is definitely not as good as images of the original would be.

It still going to be a very useful manuscript to have online. Many thanks guys!
