The Book Meme

28 Jul 2006   posted by: Chris Weimer   tags: blogs and blogging

Rick Sumner has tagged me for the book meme that Ben Myers started. Here are my answers…

1. One book that changed your life:

1984 by George Orwell. It launched me on my path to skeptical inquiry…trust nothing. There’ve been many other books that have helped me along this path, probably even mroe significantly than 1984, but that one book was the major altering point.

2. One book that you’ve read more than once:

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. A necessity even for those who don’t like science fiction.

3. One book you’d want on a desert island:

A notebook (and preferably a nice set of pens to go with it). I’ve always been meaning to get some books written.

4. One book that made you laugh:

Classics of Western Literature: Bloom County 1986-1989 by Berkeley Breathed. For those who don’t own any Bloom County, this is a great place to start.

5. One book that made you cry:

Love You Forever by Robert N Munsch and Sheila McGraw. Call me sentimental, but this one moved me to tears.

6. One book that you wish had been written.

Yeshua, a Biography by Ιακωβος ο Αδελφος του Κυριου.

7. One book that you wish had never been written.

Αποκαλυψις Ιωαννου, not for anything it did, but for the drastic impact it’s has on world policy today. I suppose I could also throw in the Qur’an, but I think this limits it to one book per question.

8. One book you’re currently reading:

Lucretius and His Influence by George Depue Hadzsits. I’ve actually read it before, but it’s always nice to read it again.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:

The Cairo Trilogy by Naguib Mafouz. Something recommended to me as one of the greatest pieces of “Western” literature to come from the East, I still have not read this.

10. Now tag five people:

I tag: Glaukôpis, Jason Hood, Julian Jensen, Stephen Carlson, and Duane Smith.

I thought so too. Everyone else did Jesus’ autobiography, but I think James’ perspective would be nice.

I have published an historical adventure novel set in 383 to 387. In it a young British soldier follows the Eagles of the Legions to their doom while wrestling with his own guilt. It’s called “Sunset for Eagles” and is available through Amazon.com It sheds some fictional light on the fall of Rome.
